Beach Fun

Such a great feeling to be finally getting some of these layouts done! I'm also feeling very motivated and inspired by all the awesome scrapbooking blogs I have been stalking. I'll be sharing my favourite blogs here very soon, so watch out for that one!

I am really liking the look of machine stitching on layouts and I cannot wait to try it out. However, I am not a sewer, and until a few days ago, i did not own a sewing machine. My beautiful and most generous mama bought me a sewing machine on the weekend so now i have no excuses for not learning and giving it a go. Sussing out how to pull the bobbin thread through took the best part of yesterday. I'm thinking baby steps!

So here is a fun beach layout I created recently. Yes, more baby photos! This was Isaac's first swim in the ocean. Again, the layout is quite simple, with no layering and just showing photos and a little handwritten journalling.

Supplies: American Crafts white textured CS, Stampin' Up! crumb cake CS. Patterned paper from My Mind's Eye. Inks from Stampin' Up! and VersaFine. Amy Tangerine stamps. Thickers by Amy Tangerine and American Crafts. Simple Stories SN@P Life Snappy Sayings.

Thickers are fantastic for title work. They are quick to use and add dimension. I'm a big fan of dimension ;-) Here, I have used Thickers from Amy Tangerine and American Crafts.

To make these embellishments, I typed the text on my computer using Ali Edwards' free font and a typewriter font. I printed the text directly onto crumb cake CS from Stampin' Up! I used a circle punch to cut out the circles, and then sponged the edges before adhering with 3D foam mini dots onto my layout.

Sponging the edges of punched out shapes adds dimension, especially when combined with 3D foam dots.

I'm not a very technical scrapper - just want to get the story told. Thanks again for stopping by, please come again soon!

  1. Really cute layout! I wanted to come here to further answer your question because I didn't know if you'd come back to read another reply. I think you did a great job with the photo of this layout. The only thing I can see is the light was coming from the right side so the left side is just a tiny bit darker. That has happened to me tons of times too. I think one thing that helps is to take the photo under a porch if you can because the light bounces around and hopefully lights the layout evenly. In photoshop try adding a curves layer, click on the icon that looks like a dropper that's white (there's a black and grey one too), then click on something in your layout that's white like the background in the layout above. I always have white borders around my photos so I use that a lot. It will really brighten up your photo. Sometimes it's too much so I lower the opacity a little. Hope that helps!
